City Hall Day in Dallas brings introduces politicians to their bosses

DALLAS -- To encourage communication between voters and their representatives, the League of Oregon Cities sponsors its first City Hall Day Thursday, Oct. 14.

At various locations around the state, citizens are invited to round table discussions. The Dallas event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Civic Center.

The goal is to give community members the opportunity to share ideas and perspectives with candidates.

Organizers want to start these dicussions before the start of the 2005 legislative session.

"This is the first time we have attempted something like this," said Dallas Mayor Jim Fairchild.

"This is all part of the League of Oregon Cities 'Hometown Voices. Wise Choices' grassroots effort to bring the concerns of citizens to the people who represent them early on, hopefully before conflicts arise."

State Sen. Gary George of Senate District 12 is scheduled to attend the Dallas event with state representatives Jim Thompson of District 23 and Donna Nelson of District 24.

Candidates include House District 23 candidate Brian Boquist, Senate District 12 candidate Hank Franzoni.

Members of the Dallas City Council, City Manager Roger Jordan and Mayor Jim Fairchild will also be present.

Issues to be discussed include water rights, financial stability for cities, franchise and right-of-way authorities and land use laws.
