DALLAS -- Dallas High School theater students scoped out the other contenders and earned awards at the Oregon State Thespian Convention.
Held April 2-4 at South Eugene High School, 14 students from Dallas High attended workshops. Three students -- Meg Anderson, Alex Bell and Kristin Mahoney -- competed in acting and stage management.
"The Dallas students are really terrific individuals," Dallas High teacher and theatrical director Blair Cromwell said. "Even when surrounded by 900 theater students from around the state they distinguish themselves by their willingness to collaborate, their curiosity and their classy presence in a crowd."
Bell took third place overall for her stage management book for the recent musical "Good News."
"My best friend and tech director were kind of holding my hand and super helpful," Bell, a senior, said. "I was kind of nervous."
She presented a short speech in front of judges about her work behind the scenes for the show, including organization of props, lights, sound, costumes and publicity. This was Bell's first time competing at the state level. She said stage management has been recently added as a category.
