POLK COUNTY -- A cyclist suffered serious injuries on July 18 after she was struck by a car at the intersection of Riddell and Clow Corner roads.

The incident occurred at about 1:18 p.m., said Sgt. Mark Garton of the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Diane Thompson, 70, of Enumclaw, Wash., was riding south on Riddell Road and failed to yield at a stop sign at the Clow Corner Road junction, Garton said.

Thompson was hit while on her bike by a car traveling east on Clow Corner driven by Andrew Serber, 22, of Monmouth.

Thompson was transported to Salem Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, Garton said.

Thompson was participating in the Cycle Oregon event taking place July 17-19 in Monmouth. She was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device.
