DALLAS -- Members of Dallas High School's new robotics team, the Cyber Drakes, had plenty to learn about designing and programming robots this year.

In the last four months, they have developed a winning formula.

The rookie team made quite an entrance at the First Tech Challenge Qualifying Tournament in Corvallis on Saturday, Feb. 13, in its first major competition. At the end of the tournament, team adviser and DHS science teacher Lee Jones said the team took home the highest honor judges could bestow: the Inspire Award.

Winning the award automatically qualifies the team for the state tournament in Hillsboro on Feb. 27. It also designates the team as a model for other teams.

"I can honestly say this team truly deserves the award," Jones said. "Their robot was one of the best at the competition, the team works together magnificently, and they are all passionate about what they do."
