MONMOUTH -- Monmouth citizens re-elected John Oberst as mayor on Nov. 2.

Oberst received 1,391 vote while challenger and current city councilor Steve Milligan received 855. The mayoral race also had 35 write-in votes.

"I'm relieved I won and happy with the outcome," Oberst said.

As for city council, all four of the current councilors involved in the election's at-large race were tapped for another term.

Jon Carey, Cec Koontz, Ben Meyer and Darin Silbernagel were re-elected.

Kenneth Lehto, a former city councilor from 2002 to 2008 and part of the city's budget committee, received 14.5 percent of the vote to snag one of the five open council seats.

"If you consider a City Council as teamwork, it's always nice to have a group that works together well," Oberst said. "If you wind up with a new player, you hope they mesh. But as it sits, we have -- more or less -- five returning councilors."
