INDEPENDENCE -- The city of Independence and the River Gallery are now accepting submissions from artists for a juried art exhibition this summer.
The exhibition, titled "Art and the City," will be presented in the new conference center -- being built in the Independence Civic Center -- from August through December.
A reception is planned for Saturday, Aug. 6.
Jurors for this show are Yuji Hiratsuka, a nationally recognized print maker and Oregon State University professor of art, and Eileen Cotter Howell, a well-known Pacific Northwest painter and instructor.
Both two- and three-dimensional work will be considered. Subject matter of the pieces are open, though they must be appropriate for public exhibition, must be for sale and be professionally presented.
There will be "purchase awards" from the city -- pieces will be bought and displayed in the civic center -- and other organizations. There will also be monetary juror's awards.
Deadline for submissions is July 2.
