DALLAS -- Polk County Bounty Market Manager Bonnie Dreier is keeping her fingers crossed for Thursday.
It's predicted to be sunny and warm, and that would be a first for the market, which is holding its fourth-season opening day.
"I'm so excited," Dreier said. "It hasn't always rained, but it's been cold, in the 50s, and cloudy."
Even though customers may be able to leave the umbrellas behind, they should expect the same early-season items they are accustomed to, including bread and home-baked goodies, vegetable plant starts, and spring vegetables.
This year the market will be at a new location, the Academy Building lawn, with a new time, 10 a.m to 3 p.m.
Dreier said the market's change of location is offering new opportunities to serve customers and assist Polk County's nutrition programs, such as WIC. The county and market will be working together to help educate program clients on how to use their WIC or SNAP vouchers at the market.
"The partnership with the county is just very strong," Dreier said. "They've been planning things as well around the market."
If a chance to once again stroll the market in the spring and summer sunshine isn't enough, the market is offering a regular slate of activities and live music.
Children's art activities will take place the second Thursday of every month, starting with making Mother's Day cards on May 9. In June, fittingly, the activity will be Father's Day cards.
Live music will be featured occasionally, with local bands Cash & Company and Orchard Mountain String Band on the schedule once or twice per month starting in June.
"I am excited about seeing our returning customers, vendors and musicians," Dreier said.
