FALLS CITY -- The long awaited "pocket park" slated for Main Street in Falls City may soon become reality.

FALLS CITY -- The long awaited "pocket park" slated for Main Street in Falls City may soon become reality.

The project was proposed through a Ford Family Foundation Leadership Institute class including local residents that began meeting in 2011. Each session ends with a collaborative project and class members, all from Dallas or Falls City, who decided to build pocket parks, small public green or open spaces, in both towns.

Dallas' was built near the Rickreall Creek Trail near where it crosses Main Street.

Falls City's -- to be located near the corner of Main and Second street -- will be installed next week, if the weather cooperates.

Rita Grady, the executive director of Polk Community Development Corporation and participant in the leadership class development team, said the design will consist of a black iron bench installed in concrete with a decorative "compass rose."

The bench and concrete work will be completed by Dallas-based contractors EVCOR and Liberty Concrete.

Dedications for both parks are being planned for later this year.
